the reinstatement

husband and wife and children is back.

and thousands of thoughts about choices and time-lines and chaos theory and choices leading to infinite other possible choices keep rushing to my head that i can't put them all down. even if i could, would the entry affect anything. i love chaos theory, sociology and anthropology. if only moorpark could THROW ME A BONE hurr and not make choosing spring classes so difficult. i may have to go 4 days a week now, 5 if i get into the Saturday hiking/backpacking class. darn.. and i desperately need a second job. but i just don't know when i'd have the time...

human finish line

people are freakin beautiful. i really find the human race SO interesting. it's probably why in high school, besides art and english classes, i loved sociology. and now in college i really like my anthropology and psychology courses. i just look at people, and everyone has their own stories. their own problems they're dealing with that day. things that they look at and smile about. or things that make them cry. even today at lunch with my parents, i saw an older lady sitting by herself, and i kind of wanted to have her come over and eat with us. and we could all just share each other's company. but it's out of the norm, and people would think there's an agenda behind such an act. i just like to get to know people because everyone has something to say and sometimes they don't have anyone to say it to. at feed mah sheep, there's this little British woman who is absolutely sweet and one of my favorites to see every month. of course, it's under certain circumstances that she finds herself there, but i don't know what they are. but i bet they'd be interesting to find out. i think in anthropology we discussed just how women like to talk more than men in most societies or cultures, and of course there's the conflicting statistics of who actually speaks more. so maybe that's why i'm so compelled to talk to these random people that i'd otherwise just pass on the street or sit near in a restaurant. sure, bad could come of that, and someone could yell at me to mind my own beezwax. but people. are SEW INTERESTING. i'm starting small, though. there's college and church and crazy places i find myself in these days. and it's beautiful to get to know people.

and i just discovered...my mom probably thinks like this too. she's always talk to random people. all that separates us is 38 years, so for a younger person it's inspiring whereas for a mother.. it's seen as embarrassing. oh well.

I don't mind, I don't want to get bored

(find out what song those lyrics are from, and listen to it)

yesterday, i filled out an online application to be a mall elf photographer. i'm burning with anticipation to see what happens. it's weird, because it's online i can't call anyone to see how it's doing and whatnot. i imagine it to be very fun with very long days with overly exhausted kids and parents alike. but i like photography, dressing up weird, and kids so it should be good. (especially if the technology and computers are better than a other certain portrait studio i worked at last Christmas season that broke down ALL the time.)

also, kareem's kind-of-surprise birthday party is sooooon *wink* and i'm so excited! i'm finishing up preparation these next few days (thank goodness for friends and their abilities). tuesday, on his actual birthday, 4 of us celebrated with 18 things:

1. spiderman cupcakes right at midnight
2. early morning kidnapping to eggs n things
3. back to kareem's house, where i got some delish hummus from his mama
4. car dealership (just 3 of them went while i got supplies for a surprise)
5. shave it (^^^)
6. i guess they bought cigarettes for his mama :(
7. walk to starbucks with portable speaker and hummus
8. come back to alyssa's while carrying a leftover Tom Glancy sign
9. sell alyssa's car to a girl in bedazzled uggs. pass go, collect cash.
10. leave for LA
11. get lost by going on the wrong freeway
12. on the way to dinner, find a big Out of the Closet thrift store. shop.
13. still on the way to dinner, stop in a really fun thrift store (where i got a vintage plaid DIANE VON FURSTENBERG shirt. i was dying.)
14. FINALLY make it to Fred 62, a great 24/7/365 diner place with every type of cuisine imaginable.
15. go to yogurt land, where it's self serve and the price is determined by the weight of the product.
16. went to Amoeba music, this HUGE music warehouse. it was magical.
17. go to 7-11 for scratchers! run into people and friends.
18. kareem gets a magazine.
19. we read the funny magazine in the car
20. drove around until it wasn't his birthday.

i was supposed to work that day too, but my babysitting family said they didn't need me anyhow, so that worked out well. however, i got home that night around 12:30, fell asleep at 1, and had to wake up at 6 to get ready for school. from the moment i woke up, i didn't feel like going to my 8:30 class because i'd read ahead. and as luck would have it, at 7, i got a call from my babysitting family, and the mom asked if there was anyway i could come over in the morning to watch the girl who was sick. the mom needed to run to LA and get work to bring it home. i said sure, and so from 7:30-9:30 i babysat. these days are getting so random.

star trails

are some of the most amazing pictures you can take. so in a world where pocket sized digital cameras are taking over, influencing Polaroid to discontinue classic polaroids (rumored to be taken over by Fujifilm) and Brooks Institute enrollment to drastically decrease, there's still great film photos.
i first learned about them at the brooks high school photo workshop in the summer of 06. i've always wanted to try to get one like this. but alas, i have little knowledge of if you need additional lighting or if the 15 minute-to several hours of exposure is enough... maybe i'll try one night, but i'd be awfully sad if they all turned out pitch black. i guess that's why i just have to try.

playlist

i've been listening to some great music lately, some with more of a romantic undertone than previous stuff i listen to. but this beautiful music i've been listening to, music that makes driving a great experience that i turn into one of those weird people who smile behind the wheel for no reason and wish i could close my eyes to just listen (but can't because it's highly unsafe!). i hope i still love these songs when in say, 10 years from now. it's very simple, occasionally acoustic, but oh so genuine. i don't need typical #1 of the week dance music. those get looked over and the ones i love deserve individual attention. so many changes occur from year to year, maturing and exposure to new things. i'm loving where my life is right now, and wish it could freeze and accelerate at the same time. as for right now, i'm in fountain hall with 20 minutes until my next class, and i'm writing down in my notebook (barnes and noble makes the best!) these songs. if anyone would like, i can make a cd of these for you. these songs just remind me of perks of being a wallflower, how they could be ones that make Charlie feel infinite.
speaking of which, in the book there's a part where he plays DJ at a friend's graduation party, i believe, and he says that he plays records according to the mood he observes. it would be interesting to hear what those songs were. such a good book.
and you may be wondering why i have 20 minutes to spare at this time? well i had an anthropology midterm today. i thought it was wednesday. whoops. even though we reviewed in class, i was hoping to go over my study guide today and tommorrow. i feel i did alright on it, thought. oh well.
and i love songmeanings.net

on ghouly nights

of course, i hope everyone had a fun halloween with enjoyable costumes. i was Sarah plain, probably a common pick, but it was fun! a friend's mom gave me an old pair of her glasses to wear and after a trip to salvation army and rite aid for some clip-on hair, i was transformed! only 2 people criticized it because they don't like her, but i just smiled on and said things (in her voice) like "wyell, as lahng as yoou're rehgistered, thaat's ahll i care about" "4 more days!" "i just came here to mingle with the young people." "we're discussing global warming. i say it doesn't exist because every morning when i wake up in alaska, it's freezing! end of experiment." kareem got his costume last minute and got a lot of compliments even though we both thought it was somewhat overdone. weird! he just decided it would go with mine if he said he was Trig Palin.

we went to the mall because apparently they have an indoor trick or treat thing every year (never knew) and it was PACKED. people were taking pictures of and WITH both of us. i shook hands with a guy dressed in a suit with an obama mask, and there were SO many flashes. it was a strange and hilarious situation!
all my friends i got to see looked extremely precious, and most likely so did friends i've yet to see pictures of! i saw 2 friends whose birthday it was, and hopped to 3 random gatherings. all were extremely...interesting, especially the last. there were just a lot of old people mixed with young, most likely friends of the band that played like 60s, 70s music. but with kareem and alyssa, all we could do is laugh at how weird everything was.

i have to say, though, the best costume i saw was on regis and kelly yesterday morning. i LOVE the roller coaster one that won. and i'm not sure if you can see in the clip, but someone also made an abominable snowman costume from those old clay Christmas movies. SO good. check it out:

any woo, this week has been really really fun. heather kareem and i got together to work on sweatshirts for our friends in minnesota. you see, at Moorpark College, they have a Zoo program that's apparently one of the best Zoology programs in the nation! (who knew?) and they have these awesome sweatshirts that i guess haven't sold that well. they have a lifelike sketch of a tiger, i believe, and were only $4.28. so we bought two and customized them for Bradley and Cacie:

and besides that, I've just been fortunate to spend time with friends and enjoy their company.

i hope to see pictures of the rest of you!
